Key Features
Product Ref: 116537
The CL 2A is the ideal 'problem solver' for any professional studio user, featuring a tube-based design boasting dual triodes. The compressor features a tube-based push-pull amplifier including the ECC 83 tube as a differential amp and the ECC 82 tube as the output stage. It also includes a built-in output transformer for optimal audio performance. The CL 2A is ideal for a range of audio sources from guitars and keyboard to vocal performances. It boasts two amplifiers, both including an input and output transformer. The compressor provides continuously variable attack and release, providing a flexible hands-on approach to compression. One of the most unique component is the gain reduction element, which is specially designed to ensure no long-term degradation, virtually giving it an infinite life span.
The front-panel features a comprehensive control section, giving you full access and control over every parameter. The control pane is comprised of class-style potentiometers and gold-plated switches. It features variable attack and release, as well as Threshold control, Ratio, and Output gain. There also switches for changing the attack/release settings form fixed to manual. Link switches are also incorporated for the two independent channels. The tube design provides that classic tube warmth, that is so sought-after.
The compressor also features two side chain circuits, comprised of two J-FET quad operational amplifiers, an NPN-transistor and a FET-transistor. The side chain circuits are the only part of the compressors that uses semiconductors. It includes two time constant circuits, one with fixed attack and release times and one with a variable attack and release times. The sidechain connections allow for daisy-chaining of multiple compressors, with the sidechain socket located on the rear panel.
The robust all-metal construction features a rack-mountable design, with built-in ears for mounting within a studio rack. The vintage-style design is reminiscent of compressors from the late 80s. It features classic-style conductive plastic potentiometers, as well as gold-plated switches. The two VU meters also keep with the vintage aesthetic, providing a quick and easy way to monitor your levels at a glance. The unit also includes Overload Protection, represented by a large red LED light on the front-panel, providing a visual indication of when your levels are too high.
