The Allen & Heath ZED-18 Analog Mixer With USB combines extensive connectivity, hands-on mixing and computer integration in a versatile 18-channel format. Designed for musicians, self-recording artists and venues, it provides ten mono channels alongside four stereo channels, making it suitable for everything from home recording to live sound.
Its ten mono channels feature DuoPre mic preamps and three-band MusiQ EQ, while four auxiliary sends give you flexible options for monitoring and routing. Configurable USB stereo audio input and output also makes it straightforward to integrate the ZED-18 with a computer for recording and playback.
Flexible USB audio
The ZED-18 lets you transfer stereo audio to and from your computer through its integrated 2 x 2 USB connection. Connect the mixer to your Mac or PC, select the required USB routing and choose the mixer as the audio device on your computer to begin recording or playing audio back through the ZED-18.
With 16-bit/48kHz A/D resolution, the USB connection provides a convenient way to incorporate computer recording into your existing mixing setup without requiring separate audio hardware.
Ten DuoPre mic preamps
Ten DuoPre mic preamps give the ZED-18 a 69dB gain range, providing extensive control over incoming signal levels. Gain is distributed across the preamp stages, with most gain provided by the first stage to help keep unwanted noise to a minimum.
Line-level signals connect to the second stage through the line input jack. This arrangement provides a higher input impedance for line signals while helping maintain low-noise performance. Combined with generous headroom, the DuoPre design gives you a practical foundation for both recording and live mixing.
Detailed MusiQ equalisation
The ten mono channels feature three-band MusiQ EQ with a sweepable mid frequency. Its optimised slope provides focused control when shaping individual instruments and sources, giving you the flexibility to make corrective adjustments or create the tonal balance you want.
The four stereo channels feature two-band EQ, providing straightforward high and low frequency adjustment for connected stereo equipment.
Flexible routing and hands-on control
Four auxiliary sends, consisting of two pre and two post sends, provide flexible routing for monitoring and additional signal paths. Auxes 1 and 2 also include a mono/stereo function, while the dedicated monitor output section and alternative stereo output source expand your routing options further.
Sixteen ALPS 100mm faders provide precise hands-on level control. Illuminated mute switches, PFL controls and peak warning indicators help you keep track of individual channels, while 12-bar metering provides clear visual feedback when monitoring your mix.
Ready for studio and stage
The ZED-18 combines its extensive mixing controls with a rugged design suited to regular use. Its rackmountable construction provides additional installation flexibility, making it equally at home in a fixed venue, recording setup or live sound system.
Global 48V phantom power supports condenser microphones, while Neutrik XLR and 1/4-inch connections provide dependable connectivity across the mixer's inputs. Stereo returns and playback connections further expand the options available when building your setup.
